Hudson Leads Anderson Men to Ninth Straight HCAC Championship

HANOVER, IN – Anderson University ’s men’s cross country team captured their ninth consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship on Oct. 27. The Ravens claimed five of the top 12 individual places en route to posting a score of 30 at the meet held at Hanover College. Senior Sean Hudson (Shelbyville, Ind./H.S.) won the individual title for the first time in his career.
Hudson became the eleventh consecutive Anderson runner to claim the top finish at the HCAC meet. He finished the 8K course on Saturday afternoon in a time of 26:08. His effort was 33 seconds faster than second-place finisher Matt Repking (Effingham, Ill./Teutopolis) of Rose-Hulman. Hudson was named HCAC Most Valuable Player for his performance.
Repking joined Hudson on the All-HCAC team which is awarded to the top 12 finishers. The other Anderson runners to earn the recognition on Saturday were juniors Troy Pryor ( Rochester, Ind.) and Matt Helm ( Wabash, Ind.) and seniors Matt Ingalls ( Columbia City, Ind.) and Dan DeYoung ( Cedar Lake, Ind.).
Derick Clark (Madison, Ind./Southwestern-Hanover) of Franklin was named the HCAC Freshman of the Year. He was the top finishing freshman at the meet placing fourth overall with a time of 26:46.
Finishing in second place in the team standings was Franklin College with a score of 44. Rose-Hulman placed third with a score of 56 and was followed by Manchester (102) in fourth position. Mount St. Joseph (165), Hanover (180), Defiance (199), Bluffton (233), and Transylvania (239) rounded out the team standings.
Franklin’s Brandon Welti ( Sunman, Ind.) and Sean Kennedy ( Connersville, Ind.), Rose-Hulman’s David Caldwell ( Plymouth, Ind.) and Stephen Boedicker (Delaware, Ohio), and Manchester’s Andy Williams (Middlebury, Ind.) were also named to the All-HCAC team.
Anderson head coach Scott Wilson was named HCAC Coach of the Year for his efforts in leading the Ravens to the conference title.
