TU Men's Soccer Set to Face Washington (Mo.) in Sweet Sixteen

LEXINGTON, KY - Fresh off its first two wins in NCAA Division III Championship history, the Transylvania men 's soccer team will take on host Washington University in sectional play Saturday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Transy (15-2-3) received the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference 's automatic bid into the championship while Washington (15-4-2) received one of 16 at-large berths after finishing third in the University Athletic Association.

The Bears are ranked 20th in the nation and advanced to sectional play with wins over Carthage and Dominican. Washington tied the school record for wins in a season with its lastest victory and the Bears, like the Pioneers, have never made it to the round of 16 before this year.

Transy, knocked out in first-round action for the last three years in a row, broke out with shootout victories over Ohio Wesleyan and John Carroll last weekend at Ohio Wesleyan.

Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champion and No. 1 ranked Trinity (Tex.) (20-0) will make the trip to St. Louis to face Wisconsin-Oskosh (17-2-1) in the other sectional at 2:30 p.m. Saturday 's winners will play Sunday at 2 p.m. EST for the right to advance to the national semifinals and finals Nov. 23-24 at the Disney Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh received one of four Pool B bids reserved for independents or conferences that do not have an automatic qualifier.

Tickets to NCAA Championship events are $6, $3 for students and senior citizens, and $2 for children 3-12.
