January 25, 2008 (Transylvania Release)

LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania senior outfielder Mitch Kuczek has been named to the NCAA Division III baseball All-American honorable mention team by D3Baseball.com.

Kuczek, a left-handed hitter, is a native of Loveland, Ohio, and a product of Moeller High School. He led Transy to a 29-12 record and a Heartland Conference championship in 2007 by hitting .432 with 46 RBI and 51 runs scored. He also had a school-record 27-game hitting streak.

Kuczek was also an All-Mideast Region and All-HCAC first-team choice last spring.

Kuczek was also named a Player to Watch in a vote of  Division III baseball coaches and announced in the latest issue of NCAA News. Also on that list from Transylvania are right-handed pitchers Ben Luking, Adam Wilkins and Korey Colyer.

Luking, a senior from Louisville Ballard, led Transy with eight wins last year while Wilkins, a junior who is also from Louisville (St. Xavier) won six. Kolyer (Lexington, Lexington Christian High School) won seven games as a freshman.

The Pioneers open the 2008 season at DePauw on Feb. 24.
