Four HCAC Softball Players Named to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Teams

GREENWOOD , IN – Rose-Hulman’s Ashley Montgomery ( Plainfield, Ind./H.S.), Jordan Goslee ( St. Joseph, Mich./H.S.), and Katie Maggard (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyds Central) have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Softball team. Defiance College’s Justine Johnston ( Wauseon, Ohio/H.S.) was selected to the District IV Softball Second team.

Montgomery, a senior infielder for the Engineers, is majoring in Chemical Engineering and has a 3.89 grade point average. She finished the 2008 season with a .377 batting average and added six doubles and 18 RBI. She was a first team selection.

Goslee, a sophomore pitcher for Rose, is majoring in Biomedical Engineering and has a 3.88 GPA. She was named the HCAC Pitcher of the Year in 2008, posting a 1.05 ERA and a 12-2 record. She helped lead the Engineers to the conference’s regular season title this season, striking out 148 batters in 107 innings of work. Goslee earned a second team All-District selection.

Maggard, a senior pitcher for RHIT, has a 3.91 GPA in Chemical Engineering. She held a 9-5 record and earned a 2.54 ERA on the mound for Rose this season. Maggard was a third team selection.

Defiance ’s Johnston holds a 3.86 grade point average in Elementary Education. The junior was 18-8 on the mound with a 1.69 ERA and 100 strikeouts this season, leading the Jackets to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Defiance finished 24-18 overall this season and 10-6 in the HCAC. The Jackets claimed the HCAC Tournament championship and earned a berth into the NCAA tournament.

Rose-Hulman finished the 2008 season 25-12 overall and 13-3 in conference play. The Engineers earned their first HCAC softball regular season title and the right to host the post-season tournament.

The ESPN The Magazine All-Academic Teams are chosen by Sports Information Directors that are members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
