Anderson’s Nagy and Kemple, Defiance’s Stein Earn HCAC Women’s Track & Field Honors

ANDERSON , IN – Anderson University’s Amanda Nagy (Wickliffe, Ohio/H.S.) and Gwen Kemple (Rushville, Ind./H.S.) and Defiance College’s Holly Stein (Fort Recovery, Ohio/H.S.) have been named 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athletes of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, respectively. Nagy and Kemple led the Ravens to another conference championship while Stein helped Defiance place third at the HCAC Championship held at Anderson University on April 25-26.
Nagy, a senior for the Ravens, helped Anderson capture its fourth consecutive team title. She finished the 100 meter dash in a first place time of 12.46, and also won the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.82.
The outstanding runner was also a member of Anderson’s 4x100 relay team. The squad won first place at the conference meet in a time of 50.75.
Kemple, a senior on the AU squad, claimed three first place finishes at the meet to help the Ravens win another conference crown. The senior won the 1,500 meters (4:49.10) and 10,000 (41:16.00), while setting a new conference record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:41.13.
Stein performed well in the throwing events at the conference tournament. The freshman won the discus throw and javelin, while placing second in the shot put. Stein won the discus throw with a final mark of 39.63 meters and javelin with a throw of 32.96 meters. Her second place effort in the shot put was a toss of 11.89 meters. Her efforts helped the Yellow Jackets finish third as a team with 125 total points. She was also named the conference’s Most Outstanding Freshman Female Athlete for her performance.
Anderson’s Scott Wilson was named the HCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Ravens to the team title. Wilson, in his third season as Anderson’s head coach, helped the Ravens claim their fourth straight women’s team championship. The team garnered 185.5 points and took home its seventh conference title in school history.
