Manchester Garners Fourth Consecutive HCAC Women’s All-Sports Award

GREENWOOD , IN – Manchester College has earned the 2007-08 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophy. Manchester picked up 51 total points in the all-sports race and secured the award for the fourth consecutive season.
The Spartans’ women’s programs won two conference championships during the academic year and finished in second place in one other conference sport. Manchester established a lead in the all-sports race during the fall season, taking first place in women’s tennis. Manchester also claimed a conference championship in basketball during the winter season, while placing second in track & field during the spring.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology finished second in the women’s all-sports standings with 49.5 points. Anderson University finished third with 47 points and was followed by Franklin College with 38 points. Transylvania University (37 points), College of Mount St. Joseph (36.5), Hanover College (35.5), Defiance College (29) and Bluffton University (21.5) rounded out the standings.
The four women’s all-sports trophies the Spartans have earned are the school’s first since the women’s award was established in 1993.
Rick Espeset , athletic director of Manchester, serves as the top administrator for the athletic department.
There are nine women’s sports sponsored by the HCAC. The women compete in tennis, golf, soccer, cross country, volleyball, basketball, swimming, softball, and track & field. Teams earn points for their institution by placing in each sport's championship.
