Rose-Hulman Claims Third Annual HCAC Commissioner’s Cup

GREENWOOD, IN – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has captured the third annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The award is given to the athletic department that registers the most all-sports points in both men’s and women’s athletics during the academic year. Rose-Hulman garnered 103 total points during the 2007-08 campaign.

The Engineers earned 53.5 points in men’s competition during the year, finishing in a first place tie with Franklin College. Rose finished second in the HCAC Women’s All-Sports race with 49.5 points.

RHIT registered four conference championships during the academic year. Rose won titles in women’s soccer, softball, men’s swimming, and men’s track & field. The Engineers’ athletic programs were consistent across the board, claiming second-place finishes in women’s golf, women’s swimming, and men’s soccer, while placing third in men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country, football, wrestling, and baseball.

Rose-Hulman finished nine and a half points ahead of second-place Anderson in the Commissioner’s Cup standings. The Ravens finished with 93.5 total points after claiming the cup last year. Franklin College finished third in the standings with 91.5 points and was followed by Manchester College with 84.5 points. Transylvania University (78 points), College of Mount St. Joseph (72), Hanover College (65.5), Defiance College (63) and Bluffton University (36) rounded out the Commissioner’s Cup standings.

The Engineers athletic department is led by Athletic Director Jeff Jenkins. Jon Prevo serves as assistant athletic director, as well as head women’s basketball coach.

The 2007-08 academic year was the third for the Commissioner’s Cup. The award is based on accumulation of points in the HCAC’s 19 championships.
