GREENWOOD, IN – Defiance College’s Trevor Matuszak (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference April Men’s Player of the Month for the second straight month. The senior track and field performer recorded NCAA qualifying marks in all three of his meets this month in the hammer throw.
Matuszak earned All-HCAC honors in the hammer throw at the HCAC Championships, throwing 193-06 to win by 32 feet in the event to remain unbeaten on the season and establish the best mark in Division III this outdoor season. The senior is one of two individuals to automatically qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event.
The senior standout won the hammer throw at the Manchester Invitational with a toss of 175-00, outdistancing his nearest competitor by over 33 feet.
His accolades during the month include being selected HCAC Field Athlete of the Week on April 14, after setting a meet record in the hammer throw at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships to win his second consecutive All-Ohio Outdoor title.
Matuszak is the fourth Defiance athlete to claim the award this year and also remains as the only male track and field athlete ever to receive the honor.
