Two Rose-Hulman Softball Players Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

TERRE HAUTE, IN -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed two players on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association all-Central Region Softball Team, in results released today by the organization.

The Mount Searches for Third Straight HCAC Baseball Tournament Title

CINCINNATI , OH – The College of Mount St. Joseph claimed its first regular season HCAC baseball title since 2003 and second overall, earning the right to host the 2008 HCAC Baseball Tournament. The Thursday and Friday games will be played at Marge Schott Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati, while Saturday’s championship game will be held at Midland Field in Amelia, Ohio.
The Lions, coached by Chuck Murray, earned the No. 1 seed with a 24-16 record overall and a 16-5 mark in league play. Franklin finished second with a 25-12 record overall and 16-6 record in HCAC action...Full Story
Bluffton’s Miller and Rose-Hulman’s Goslee Win Top HCAC Softball Awards

GREENWOOD , IN – Bluffton University’s Lindsey Miller (Wapakoneta, Ohio/H.S.) and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich./H.S.) have been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
Miller, a junior shortstop for the Beavers, guided her team to a share of the 2008 HCAC softball regular season title this season. She was a key to the Bluffton offensive attack and hit a league-high .515 in conference play. Defiance’s Matuszak Earns Second Straight Men’s HCAC Player of the Month Award

GREENWOOD, IN – Defiance College’s Trevor Matuszak (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference April Men’s Player of the Month for the second straight month. The senior track and field performer recorded NCAA qualifying marks in all three of his meets this month in the hammer throw.
Matuszak earned All-HCAC honors in the hammer throw at the HCAC Championships, throwing 193-06 to win by 32 feet in the event to remain unbeaten on the season and establish the best mark in Division III this outdoor season. Rose-Hulman’s Jordan Goslee Honored as HCAC Women’s Player of the Month

GREENWOOD, IN – Rose-Hulman’s Jordan Goslee ( St. Joseph, Mich./H.S.) has been named April’s Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Player of the Month. The sophomore softball pitcher propelled the Engineers to a 9-3 record in April, leading the squad to its first ever regular season HCAC softball title.
Goslee emerged as the ace of the Rose-Hulman staff during the month, posting an 8-1 record and 0.82 ERA during April. In 60 innings of work, the sophomore allowed just seven earned runs and 43 hits, while recording 89 strikeouts...Full Story
DC Hires Brumett as New Men’s Basketball Head Coach

DEFIANCE, OH– Defiance College announced on Tuesday that it had hired Kyle Brumett as its new head coach for the men’s basketball program. Brumett is set to begin his post with the Yellow Jackets on May 19.

Rose-Hulman Claims Third Annual HCAC Commissioner’s Cup

GREENWOOD, IN – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has captured the third annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The award is given to the athletic department that registers the most all-sports points in both men’s and women’s athletics during the academic year. Rose-Hulman garnered 103 total points during the 2007-08 campaign.

Franklin and Rose-Hulman Share HCAC Men’s All-Sports Trophy

GREENWOOD , IN – Franklin College and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology have won the 2007-08 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s All-Sports Trophy. The Grizzlies and Engineers tied, earning 53.5 points during the academic year to claim the men’s all-sports trophy. It is Franklin’s third straight award, while the Engineers claim their second men’s trophy.
The Grizzlies’ men’s programs were consistent in all eight sports they participated in during the year. Franklin captured first place in football and earned five second-place finishes. Manchester Garners Fourth Consecutive HCAC Women’s All-Sports Award

GREENWOOD , IN – Manchester College has earned the 2007-08 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophy. Manchester picked up 51 total points in the all-sports race and secured the award for the fourth consecutive season.
The Spartans’ women’s programs won two conference championships during the academic year and finished in second place in one other conference sport. Manchester established a lead in the all-sports race during the fall season, taking first place in women’s tennis. Transylvania Claims Second Straight HCAC Men’s Golf Championship

FORT WAYNE , IN – Transylvania University’s Bradley Sutherland (Cadiz, Ky.) fired a four-round score of 297 at the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Men’s Golf Conference Championship at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour, Ind. and Chestnut Hills Golf Club in Ft. Wayne, Ind. to lead the Pioneers to their second straight HCAC Men’s Golf title. Transylvania tallied a team-score of 1,216, holding off second place Franklin’s total of 1,277.
Sutherland shot a first-round best 72 and returned in the final three rounds to shoot a 74, 75, and 76. He earned medalist honors at the tournament and has been named the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player. Sutherland finished ten strokes ahead...Full Story
Defiance Wins Marathon 13-Inning Thriller to Advance to NCAA Division III Tournament

TERRE HAUTE, IN -- Defiance College captured the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament with an 11-5 victory in 13 innings over the College of Mount St. Joseph at Rose-Hulman on Saturday.
