Anderson sweeps 2005 HCAC Track & Field Championships

Hanover , Ind. – The Anderson University men’s and women’s track and field teams both won the team championships at the 2005 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference meet on Apr. 30 at Hanover College. The Ravens’ men scored 245 points in the 20 events to capture their eleventh straight conference championship. The women’s team posted 190 total points to claim its first conference championship since 1997.
The Anderson men had 11 event winners. Senior Dwayne Lockridge ( Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) won two field events capturing the hammer throw and shot put. Lockridge had a winning mark of 54.69 meters in the hammer and a mark of 15.92 meters in the shot put.
Bluffton University placed second in the men’s team standings with 103 points. Manchester College tallied 71.5 points and was followed by Defiance College (64 points), Franklin College (57), Mt. St. Joseph (46.5), and Hanover (33).
The Anderson women’s team won seven events and were led by two freshmen that each picked up a first place finish in two events. Amanda Nagy ( Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) won the 100 meter dash in 12.52 and took first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.18. Carmen Moss ( Anderson, Ind./ Highland) grabbed first place in the shot put with a mark of 11.03 meters. She also placed first in the discus throw with a mark of 38.3 meters.
Manchester was a close second in the team standings with 140 points. Bluffton, the defending HCAC women’s champion, finished third with 108 points. Franklin placed fourth with 67 points and was followed by Mt. St. Joseph (47 points). Defiance and Hanover tied for the sixth spot in the standings with 34 points each.
