HCAC Honors 2021 Women’s Basketball All-Conference and Awards

CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced the members of the 2021 All Conference teams as well as the other marquee awards following the 2021 season.

Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, Ohio) of Mount St. Joseph University was named the 2021 Player of the Year. The senior had a standout campaign, averaging an impressive 24.6 points per contest after scoring 172 points over the course of the regular season. Hannah Hawkins (Fairmount, Ind.) is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year selection, representing Anderson University. Hawkins led the league in rebounding with 108 rebounds and a 9.81 rebounds per game average over the course of 2021. Hawkins also added 7.09 points per game.

Tiara Jackson (East Chicago, Ind.) from Manchester University was voted as the Newcomer of the Year. Jackson, a 6-1 forward, made an impact in her first year. She scored 140 points for a 10.76 points per game average in conference play behind a 64 percent (57-of-89) field goal percentage. Jackson also added 117 rebounds, with 9.0 rebounds per game, and posted six games with double-digit rebounds. She also picked up 22 blocks and 14 steals.

With a tie in voting for the Coach of the Year results, two coaches will be honored in 2021 as Co-Coach of the Year. Dan Benjamin from Mount St. Joseph University and Chad Shutler from Bluffton University. Benjamin coached the Lions to a 6-2 mark over the course of the 2021 regular season and coached Haberthy, the Player of the Year. Bluffton’s Shutler led the Beavers to an 8-4 mark in league play.

The HCAC also honors an All-Conference First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention team. The women’s coaches also recognize a Newcomer Team. The members of those teams are selected by a vote of league coaches.
