Baseball Hitter – Ben Young, Transylvania University |
Transylvania University’s Ben Young (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) blasted two home runs and drove in five runs as the Pioneers clinched a spot in the HCAC Tournament and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week for the second time. The sophomore first baseman was 4-of-13 (.308) at the plate as Transy finished 3-1 on the week. He hit his eighth and ninth home runs of the season during the week and also scored four runs and added a double. Young slugged .786 and posted an on-base percentage of .412. Transylvania (28-10, 15-7 HCAC) finished fourth in the conference standings and will face top-seed Mount St. Joseph in the opening game Thursday. |

Baseball Pitcher – Andy Clark, Franklin College |
Franklin College’s Andy Clark ( Louisville, Ky./Seneca) tied Franklin’s single-game record for strikeouts with 14 against Hanover and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second time. The senior right-hander pitched all nine innings of shutout ball in a 4-0 win against Hanover at Victory Field in Indianapolis. Clark didn’t walk a single batter and allowed just two hits to improve to 9-2 on the season. The nine wins broke his single-season school record for wins. In the second game of the doubleheader with the Panthers on Saturday, Clark pitched one inning and struck out three batters. Franklin (25-12, 16-6 HCAC) earned the second seed in the upcoming HCAC tournament and will face Rose-Hulman in the second game on Thursday from Cincinnati. |
