Transylvania Claims First HCAC Womens All-Sports Award

GREENWOOD, IN – Transylvania University has earned the 2009-10 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophy. Transylvania picked up 49 total points in the all-sports race and secured the award for the first time.
The Pioneers’ women’s programs won three conference championships during the academic year and finished in second place in one other conference sport. Transylvania established a lead in the all-sports race following the winter season, taking first place in women’s basketball and earning three points in women’s swimming. Transylvania also claimed a conference championship in women’s tennis during the fall and softball during the spring.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology finished second in the women’s all-sports standings with 48 points. Franklin College finished third with 47 points and was followed by Hanover College with 42.5 points. Manchester College (38 points), Anderson University (34.5), Defiance College (32.5), College of Mount St. Joseph (29.5) and Bluffton University (27) rounded out the standings.
Transylvania’s all-sports trophy snaps a five year run by Manchester College and is the first award to leave the state of Indiana since it was established in 1993.
Jack Ebel, athletic director of Transylvania, serves as the top administrator for the athletic department.
There are eight women’s sports sponsored by the HCAC. The women compete in tennis, golf, soccer, cross country, volleyball, basketball, softball, and track & field. Teams earn points for their institution by placing in each sport's championship.
