Rose-Hulman Claims Second HCAC Commissioners Cup

GREENWOOD, IN – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has captured the fifth annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The award is given to the athletic department that registers the most all-sports points in both men’s and women’s athletics during the academic year. Rose-Hulman garnered 96.0 total points during the 2009-10 campaign and became the first school to win multiple cups.
The Engineers earned 48.0 points in men’s competition during the year, claiming the men’s trophy for the third straight year. RHIT finished second in the HCAC Women’s All-Sports race with 48.0 points.
Rose-Hulman registered three conference championships during the academic year. The Engineers won titles in women’s soccer, men’s soccer, and men’s track and field. The Rose-Hulman athletic programs were consistent across the board, claiming second-place finishes in men’s and women’s tennis and third place finishes in women’s golf and women’s cross country.
The Engineers finished one and a half points ahead of second-place Franklin in the Commissioner’s Cup standings. The defending cup champion Grizzlies finished with 94.5 total points. Transylvania finished third in the standings with 86.5 points and was followed by Manchester College with 82.0 points. Hanover College and Anderson University tied for fifth with 81.0 points, while Defiance College (69), College of Mount St. Joseph (57), and Bluffton University (37) rounded out the standings.
The Rose-Hulman athletic department is led by Athletic Director Jeff Jenkins and Associate Athletic Director Jon Prevo.
The 2009-10 academic year was the fifth for the Commissioner’s Cup. The award is based on accumulation of points in the HCAC’s 16 championships as well as wrestling, men’s swimming, and women’s swimming.
