Transylvania University Earns First HCAC Commissioner’s Cup

GREENWOOD, IN – Transylvania University has captured the sixth annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The award is given to the athletic department that registers the most all-sports points in both men’s and women’s athletics during the academic year. Transylvania garnered 107.66 total points during the 2010-11 campaign and became the first school outside the state of Indiana to win the cup.

The Pioneers earned 63.33 points in women’s competition during the year, claiming the women’s trophy for the second straight year.  Transy finished fifth in the HCAC Men’s All-Sports race with 44.33 points.

Transylvania registered six conference championships during the academic year. The Pioneers won titles in women’s soccer, men’s soccer, volleyball, men’s golf, men’s tennis, and softball.  The Transylvania athletic programs were consistent across the board, claiming second-place finishes in women’s tennis, women’s golf, and women’s basketball.

The Pioneers finished over four points ahead of second-place Rose-Hulman in the Commissioner’s Cup standings. The defending cup champion Engineers finished with 103.33 total points. Franklin College finished third in the standings with 99.66 points and was followed by Hanover College with 93.83 points. Manchester College placed fifth with 92.96 points, while Anderson University (89.66), Defiance College (70.32), College of Mount St. Joseph (69.66), Earlham College (49.00), and Bluffton University (45.49) rounded out the standings.

The Transylvania athletic department is led by Athletic Director Jack Ebel.

The 2010-11 academic year was the sixth for the Commissioner’s Cup. The award is based on accumulation of points in the HCAC’s 18 championships as well as wrestling, men’s swimming, women’s swimming, field hockey, and lacrosse.
