Transylvania Claims Second-Straight HCAC Women’s All-Sports Award

GREENWOOD, IN – Transylvania University has earned the 2010-11 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophy. Transylvania picked up 63.33 total points in the all-sports race and secured the award for the second-straight season.

The Pioneers’ women’s programs won three conference championships during the academic year and finished in second place in three other conference sports. Transylvania established a lead in the all-sports race following the fall season, taking first place in women’s soccer and volleyball.  The Pioneers also earned a title in softball and placed second in women’s tennis, women’s golf, and women’s basketball.

Hanover College finished second in the women’s all-sports standings with 56.33 points. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology finished third with 47.33 points and was followed by Manchester College with 42.8 points. Franklin College (41.83 points), Defiance College (37.66), Anderson University (37.5), College of Mount St. Joseph (32.5), Bluffton University (28.66), and Earlham College (22.0) rounded out the standings.

Jack Ebel, athletic director of Transylvania, serves as the top administrator for the athletic department.

There are nine women’s sports sponsored by the HCAC. The women compete in tennis, golf, soccer, cross country, volleyball, basketball, softball, and indoor/outdoor track & field. Teams earn points for their institution by placing in each sport's championship.
