Tim Tepe Named ABCA Mideast Region Player of the Year

ALLIANCE, OH-Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior shortstop Tim Tepe and sophomore pitcher Justin McDowell of The College of Wooster have been named Mideast Region Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Tepe, the 2009 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, established school records with 87 hits, 57 runs scored, a .792 slugging average and a 28-game hitting streak during the 2009 campaign.  He also blasted seven home runs and tied for the team high with six triples as he led the Fightin' Engineers to a 32-14 record, an HCAC Tournament title and appearance in last week's NCAA Mideast Regional.

McDowell, an All-North Coast Athletic Conference First Team selection, ended the regular season leading the league in five of the major pitching categories - ERA (2.42), victories (10), innings pitched (78.0), strikeouts (67), and opponent batting average (.236) - to go with a tie for third in appearances (19).  McDowell was named the Most Outstanding Player of last week's NCAA Mideast Regional as he helped lead the Fighting Scots (39-9) to the NCAA Division III World Series for a fifth time.
