Rose-Hulman's Bilse Named Second-Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American

TERRE HAUTE, IN -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior outfielder Andrew Bilse (Munster) earned second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors, in results released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Bilse becomes the 82nd Academic All-American in Rose-Hulman athletics history.  At least one Rose-Hulman student-athlete has earned Academic All-American honors for the last 24 years, the sixth longest streak among all NCAA Division I, II or III institutions.

Bilse also earned the 14th Academic All-American award in the history of Rose-Hulman baseball and became the 10th different baseball player to capture the honor.

The mechanical engineering served as the leadoff hitter for a Fightin' Engineer squad that qualified for the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the second consecutive year.  Bilse batted .362 with 67 hits, 50 runs scored, 10 doubles and six triples this season.  In his career, Bilse ranks ninth in school history with seven triples and stands 10th with 13 hit by pitches.

Defensively, Bilse was honored with a spot on the Rawlings All-Mideast Region Gold Glove Team for NCAA Division III this season.  He had 81 putouts and one assist with no errors this season and ranks first in school history with a perfect fielding percentage in 185 attempts.

In the classroom, Bilse has compiled a 3.85 grade point average in mechanical engineering.  He also serves as a member of the Team Rose Motorsports Racing Team and the Collegiate Youth Ministry organization.

Bilse was part of a Rose-Hulman squad that finished 32-14 this season and won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament to earn the fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.  The Engineers also crossed the 30-win plateau third time in six years and have tallied a record of 85-47 during Bilse's playing career.
