RHIT’s Tepe Headlines HCAC Trio Named D3baseball.com Preseason All-American


GREENWOOD, IN - The D3baseball.com 2010 Preseason All-American team was announced yesterday, with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior shortstop Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) being named to the first team. Mount St. Joseph senior pitcher Steve Matre (Cincinnati, Ohio/Purcell Marian) earned a spot on the second team, while Franklin second baseman Ian Sanders (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) earned an honorable mention nod.

Tepe earned first-team All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association and was a second-team D3baseball.com All-American last season.  Tepe was also named the American Baseball Coaches Association Mideast Region Player of the Year last spring after batting .485 with a .792 slugging percentage, 87 hits, 57 runs scored, and a 28-game hitting streak.

Matre, a right-handed reliever, was 0-1 with 13 saves and a 0.41 ERA this past season. In 22 innings, Matre allowed only 10 hits, one earned run, four walks, and had 32 strikeouts, while earning first-team All-American honors from D3baseball.com a year ago.

Franklin's Sanders, hit .408 with 52 runs scored, 17 doubles, 10 home runs, and 59 RBI last season. The Decatur , Indiana native earned a spot on the D3baseball.com All-American second-team last spring.

The 2010 baseball season opens on February 27 with the HCAC portion of the schedule beginning on March 23.
