Baseball Report (Week 2) - Defiance Wins Five at Snowbird Classic

GREENWOOD, IN- Exciting baseball action continued across the HCAC as teams continued their trips down south.  Defiance College stood out among the HCAC contingent with a 5-1 record in Port Charlotte.

The Yellow Jackets (5-2, 0-0 HCAC) won their first four contests down in Florida before earning a split during their final day of competition.  The DC offense scored 39 runs in their five wins, allowing only 16 runs in those victories.  Defiance posted wins over Wilmington (split), Kenyon, Medaille, and a doubleheader sweep of Muskingum during the trip.

Senior outfielder Kirk Jesse (Ney, Ohio/Fairview) led the offense during the trip, batting .444 with eight runs scored, two doubles, two RBI, and seven stolen bases.

Senior second baseman Tim Pitro (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) provided the power down in Florida, batting .391 with two doubles, a home run, and a team-high six RBI.

On the mound, sophomore pitcher Todd Odell (Hudson, Ohio/H.S.) was instrumental out of the bullpen, posting three saves and a 1.59 ERA in 5.2 innings of work.  The Hudson, Ohio native shut the door on the Muskingum offense in both wins as well as Medaille in the final game of the trip.

The Yellow Jackets hit the road all this week, traveling to Taylor Wednesday afternoon before a pair of road doubleheaders this weekend against Trine and Albion.
