Baseball Report (Week 3) - Transy Finishes Spring Trip with 5-2 Record

GREENWOOD, IN- Transylvania finished their non-conference schedule with a successful trip down south.  The Pioneers (10-4, 0-0 HCAC) ended the week with a 5-2 record, including winning five of six down in Winter Haven, Florida.

Transy began the week by splitting a doubleheader with Curry on Monday.  TU then rattled off four straight wins before falling to Piedmont College in Georgia.

Transylvania junior catcher Drew Zuckerman (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) provided the power in the Pioneer lineup.  The junior hit two home runs, including a walk-off blast in a 9-7 win over William Paterson.  Earlier in the contest, he hit a grand slam to finish with six RBI in the win.

For the week, Zuckerman tallied four hits in 14 at bats, scored four runs, and drove in eight runs.  He slugged .714 and added an on-base percentage of .474 during the week.

On the mound, sophomore lefty Chris Bloch (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) pitched a complete-game shutout in a 5-0 win over SUNY-Cortland Friday afternoon.  The sophomore allowed five hits and one walk while striking out four against the nation's No. 20 team.

The Pioneers also tallied a two game sweep of Clarkson College.  In a 10-6 game one win, Zach Muench (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.  Transy completed the sweep with an 8-3 win in game two.

Transylvania opens the HCAC schedule this week down in Lexington.  The Pioneers welcome Hanover (7-7, 0-0 HCAC) to town tomorrow for a 4:00 PM first pitch before playing a three game set against Anderson (6-6, 0-0 HCAC) Friday and Saturday.
