Baseball Report (Week 4) - Rose Sweeps Bluffton for 3-0 HCAC Start

GREENWOOD, IN- Rose-Hulman began the 2010 HCAC schedule with a three-game sweep of Bluffton University at Art Nehf Field this past weekend.  The No. 16 ranked Engineers (14-3, 3-0 HCAC) defeated the Beavers 8-5 on Friday night before sweeping Bluffton (7-10, 0-3 HCAC) 7-4, 12-8 on Saturday.

Rose-Hulman senior shortstop Tim Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI to lead the Engineer offense in Friday's 8-5 win.  Tepe added a 3-for-3 performance in game one Saturday, adding three RBI and a run scored in the 7-4 win.

In Saturday's second contest, junior Chris Stemple (Mt. Vernon, Ind./H.S.) hit 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI.

For the weekend, the RHIT offense pounded out 27 runs and 34 hits against the Beavers pitching staff.

Bluffton's offense was led by senior first baseman Brennan Bauman (Milford, Ohio/H.S.).  Bauman hit 8-for-11 (.727) during the series with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored.

Rose-Hulman continues HCAC play on the road this week.  The Engineers play a single game at Anderson tomorrow before heading south to Lexington for a three game set with Transylvania Friday and Saturday.

In other HCAC action...

Hanover took two of three from Defiance at L.S. Ayers Complex, moving to 3-1 in league play.  The Panthers (11-8, 3-1 HCAC) received a solid series from freshman outfielder Cam Ginder (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll).  Ginder finished the three-game set against Defiance 5-for-10 with four runs scored and two RBI.  Defiance (7-8, 1-2 HCAC) snapped a four game losing streak with a 15-2 win over Hanover in game one Saturday.  Sophomore outfielder Zach Stallkamp (Paulding, Ohio/H.S.) went 4-for-5 at the plate in the win, adding a double, three runs, and four RBI.  Hanover travels to Transylvania Tuesday in their lone conference tilt this week, while Defiance travels to Bluffton Tuesday and Franklin this weekend.

In the third conference series of the weekend, Anderson posted a series win over Transylvania with two wins.  AU (9-7, 2-1 HCAC) opened the weekend with a 9-5 loss to the Pioneers (11-7, 1-3 HCAC) before posting a two-game sweep on Saturday (5-3 and 7-6).  Junior catcher Drew Zuckerman (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) led the Pioneers offense in Friday's win, hitting 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, two home runs, and four RBI.  Anderson's Jeremy Hazen (Anderson, Ind./Highland) finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and two RBI in the loss.  In Saturday's doubleheader sweep, AU was led by senior Chris Jarrett (Hagerstown, Ind./H.S.) who hit 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a 5-3 game one win.  Zuckerman hit his HCAC leading fifth home run of the season in the Pioneers 7-6 10 inning loss to the Ravens in game two.  Anderson faces Rose-Hulman Tuesday before heading north to Manchester Friday and Saturday.  Transylvania faces Hanover Tuesday and Rose-Hulman this weekend.
