Anderson's Chris Jarrett Named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week

Official NCBWA Release

ANDERSON, IN - Chris Jarrett (Hagerstown, Ind./H.S.) of Anderson University provided the bulk of the Ravens’ offense and Matt Schuld of St. Thomas University (Minn.) kept the Tommies in their conference title race with a timely shutout as the pair earned the NCAA Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors for the ninth week of 2010, covering games of April 26-May 2, as voted on by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Jarrett, a senior outfielder from Hagerstown, Ind., went 15-for-23 for a .652 batting average, with nine runs scored, a double, a triple, four home runs, 12 RBI, three stolen bases, and 30 total bases for a 1.304 slugging percentage as the Ravens went 3-2 vs. Ohio Wesleyan and Bluffton.  In the second game of a doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday, he went 4-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI.  On Saturday, in the first game of a twinbill against Bluffton, he went 4-for-5 with a pair of round-trippers, scored four times, and drove in eight.  He followed that up with a 3-for-4 game that included a double and a run scored .  He also had 17 putouts in the field without any errors.  Jarrett was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.

Schuld, a senior from Plymouth, Minn., was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after tossing a three-hit shutout in a 12-0 win over MIAC co-leader Concordia-Moorhead in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday.  The right-hander worked out of two bases-loaded situations as he struck out seven and walked four. It was the first time the Cobbers had been shut out in their last 34 MIAC games.  He also struck out two of the three batters he faced for a save in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Saint Mary's.  He lowered his season ERA to 2.41, improved to 26-5 on his career, and moved within one win of tying the UST career wins record.
