Baseball Report (Week 1) - Franklin Finishes Florida Trip with 2-2 Record

GREENWOOD, IN- The 2011 baseball season began last week as nine of the ten institutions started their schedules.  Preseason favorite Franklin finished their week in Florida with a 2-2 mark, posting victories over Farmingdale and St. Vincent.

The Grizzlies (2-2, 0-0 HCAC) offense scored 26 runs during the week and currently leads the conference in batting average (.380), slugging percentage (.542), doubles (13), and home runs (2).

Senior outfielder Travis Lee (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) paced the blue and gold's offense with a .667 average at the plate, adding three runs, a double, a home run, and four RBI.

Sophomore designated hitter Zach Osowski (Patriot, Ind./Switzerland Co.) also hit .667 at the dish with three runs, a double, a home run, and six RBI.

On the mound for the Grizzlies, junior pitcher Shawn Mattingly (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) earned a 1-0 record down in Florida.  In the 5-4 win over St. Vincent, Mattingly tossed a complete-game with seven strikeouts and ten hits allowed. 

Franklin returns for their home opener this weekend as Albion comes to town for a three game series Friday and Saturday.
