GREENWOOD, IN- Manchester College maintained control of the HCAC baseball race with a perfect 4-0 record during the week. The Spartans (21-8, 12-2 HCAC) defeated Defiance in a single contest before posting a three-game sweep of Earlham in North Manchester, remaining two full games ahead of Anderson in the standings.
Senior third baseman Jay Sheets (Goshen, Ind./Northwood) led the Spartans offense during the week, hitting .615 (8-for-13) with nine runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, and seven RBI.
Sheets went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in MC's 14-5 series opening win over Earlham and closed Saturday's doubleheader with two home runs in a 19-10 victory.
On the mound for the black and gold, senior Curt Mallery (Noblesville, Ind./H.S.) finished the week with a 1-0 mark.
The senior right-hander picked up a 14-5 win over Earlham on Saturday, tossing a complete game for his fifth win of the season. Mallery struck out 13 Quakers and gave up two earned runs on seven hits.
Manchester will try and hold off Anderson in the standings as the Ravens come to North Manchester Tuesday afternoon. The black and gold will also welcome Franklin this weekend for a three-game series.
