Anderson’s Tucker Named HCAC Baseball Most Valuable Player
GREENWOOD, IN – Anderson University’s Michael Tucker (Zionsville, Ind./H.S.) has been named the 2011 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player in baseball. The junior catcher guided the Ravens to a 26-14 overall record and a fourth place finish in the league standings.
Tucker hit .443 (35-for-79) in conference play and had 28 runs, 37 RBI, eight doubles, one triple, and nine home runs. He had a .911 slugging percentage and a .553 on-base percentage during league play.
Overall in 2011, Tucker ranked among the conference leaders in batting average (.433) and led the HCAC in slugging percentage (.901), on-base percentage (.539), RBI (66), home runs (16), and total bases (127).
Franklin’s Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic) has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. Windler, an outfielder for the Grizzlies, hit .435 (37-for-85) in conference play and had 24 runs, 26 RBI, nine doubles, one triple, and six home runs.
Windler hit .444 (52-for-117) with 34 runs, 31 RBI, 10 doubles, one triple, and eight home runs overall in 2011. He had a slugging percentage of .752 and an on-base percentage of .504 for the Grizzlies who won the school’s first HCAC baseball tournament title. FC stands 29-12 overall this season and will make their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament this week.
The HCAC has also awarded the 2011 Coach of the Year award to Manchester Head Coach Rick Espeset. In his 15th season as the skipper for the Spartans, Espeset guided his team to the school’s fourth HCAC baseball championship with a 17-7 mark in conference action. Coach Espeset also claimed the HCAC Coach of the Year award in 1998, 2004, and 2006.
Tucker and Windler join 22 other players on the All-HCAC First
Team. There are also 15 players on the All-HCAC Second Team. The
All-HCAC Honorable Mention list includes 34 athletes.
