Grizzlies to Play in Marietta Regional in NCAA National Tournament

FRANKLIN, IN – The Franklin College baseball team will travel to Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio this week to play in one of eight regional tourneys in the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship tournament, as announced by the organization's selection committee today.

The Grizzlies (29-12 overall) will join six other schools in the regional which will be hosted by Marietta at Don Schaly Stadium Wednesday through Sunday and has a double-elimination format.

Franklin, the No. 4 seed, will play in the first game, taking on No. 5 seed Frostburg State (28-13) at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18. The winner will face No. 1 seed and host Marietta (38-3) in Game 4 at approximately 8 p.m. later that day.

The other four teams in the field include No. 2 seed Heidelberg (33-1), No. 3 Adrian (31-9), No. 6 Case Western Reserve (30-13) and No. 7 Penn State-Altoona (28-11).

Franklin, which defeated host Manchester College in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship game on Saturday, advanced to the NCAA tourney with an automatic bid. The Grizzlies, guided by 14th-year coach Lance Marshall, are making their first NCAA III playoffs appearance and are one of 55 teams to make the NCAA's post-season competition.

Spectators may purchase tickets at the Don Schaly ticket office with cash only (ticket office hours to be announced).

Tickets include a Single-Game Pass – adults $6 and senior citizens and students $4; Single-Day Pass – everyone $12; and All-Tournament Pass – everyone $35.

Winners of the eight regional tournaments will qualify for the NCAA Division III World Series double-elimination championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis. May 27-31.
