AU’s Tucker Headlines HCAC Trio Named Preseason All-American

GREENWOOD, IN - The 2012 Preseason All-American team was announced yesterday, with Anderson University senior catcher Michael Tucker (Zionsville, Ind./H.S.) being named to the second team. Bluffton senior shortstop Nick Broyles (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) and Manchester junior utility player Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) earned a spot on the honorable mention squad.

Tucker earned first-team All-American honors from last season.  Tucker was also named the HCAC Most Valuable Player last spring after batting .433 with a .901 slugging percentage, 61 hits, 45 runs scored, 14 doubles, 16 home runs and 66 RBI.

Broyles, a shortstop for the Beavers, earned 1st team All-HCAC honors a year ago.  The senior hit a team-best .403 with 51 runs scored, 18 doubles, five triples, eight home runs, and 48 RBI.

Manchester's Murphy earned a sport on the All-HCAC 1st Team as a pitcher last spring.  The junior posted a 9-1 record on the hill with 40 strikeouts in 50.1 innings of work.  He also hit .303 at the plate with 37 runs scored, 10 doubles, and 23 RBI.

The 2012 baseball season opens on February 25 with the HCAC portion of the schedule beginning on March 23.
