GREENWOOD, IN- Earlham College had a busy week and walked away with a 5-2 record. The Quakers (8-4, 0-0 HCAC) started the week down in Ft. Pierce, Florida and ended it with a pair of doubleheaders in Richmond.
EC defeated Hilbert 16-5 in Florida and fell to Rutgers-Camden and Delaware Valley while on the trip. The Quake went 4-0 at home Saturday and Sunday, earning two-game sweeps of Johnson Bible and Robert Morris-Springfield.
Sophomore Ryan Hayes (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) finished the week 9-of-16 (.563) at the plate to lead the Earlham offense.
Hayes totaled three doubles, one triple, two home runs, six RBI, seven runs scored, and 20 total bases, while posting a slugging percentage of 1.250.
On the mound, freshman Matt Brankle (Kokomo, Ind./Taylor) posted a 2-0 record for the Quakers. The freshman tossed a complete game in a 10-2 win over Robert Morris-Springfield Sunday, giving up two runs on four hits with 13 strikeouts.
Brankle also notched a win over Hilbert, scattering four hits and three earned runs in a 16-5 win.
For the week, the freshman posted a 3.75 earned run average with eight hits allowed and 20 strikeouts in 12.0 innings of work.
Earlham will kick off the 2012 HCAC schedule on the road against Hanover this weekend.
