Baseball Report (Week 1) - Manchester Finishes Myrtle Beach Trip with 3-1 Mark
GREENWOOD, IN- The 2012 baseball season began last week as all ten institutions started their schedules. Manchester finished its week in South Carolina with a 3-1 mark, posting victories over Ferrum, N.C. Wesleyan, and Manhattanville.
The Spartans (3-1, 0-0 HCAC) offense scored 36 runs during the week and currently is batting (.313), with a conference-best on-base percentage of .459.
Junior outfielder Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) paced the Spartans' offense with a .438 average at the plate, adding three runs, a double, and four RBI.
On the mound for Manchester, sophomore pitcher Dylan Padgett (Kirkland, Ind./Clinton Central) threw a six-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over N.C. Wesleyan. Padgett collected four strikeouts and walked just one batter in nine complete innings, while yielding a .176 opponent batting average.
Manchester will face DePauw in a pair of home-and-home doubleheaders this weekend.
