GREENWOOD, IN- Manchester College climbed into a tie for third place in the HCAC standings after going 4-0 last week. The Spartans (17-12, 9-5 HCAC) stand three games behind first place Anderson in the standings and occupy the fourth and final spot in the race for the HCAC tournament.
The black and gold kicked off the week with a 9-3 win over Defiance at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Junior Brad Murphy (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) finished the game 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored to lead the MC offense.
Manchester closed the week with a convincing three game sweep of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati over the weekend. The Spartans outscored the host Lions 45-14 during the series. Murphy was 6-for-13 with three RBI, five runs scored, and a double against the Mount.
Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) and Corey Marchant (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Dwenger) each hit a home run in MC's 12-3 win Saturday.
The Manchester offense currently leads the HCAC with 244 runs scored, 71 doubles, and 28 home runs this spring and ranks second in the league in batting average (.321).
Manchester will try and pick up some ground on conference leader Anderson Tuesday afternoon. The black and gold will close the week on the road against Hanover this weekend.
