HCAC Places Eight on D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region Squad; MU's Espeset Coach of the Year

D3baseball.com All-Region Teams

GREENWOOD, IN –Manchester University head coach Rick Espeset has been named Mideast Region Coach of the Year by D3baseball.com in results released this morning. Manchester’s Corey Marchant (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) and Jordan Niemann (Michigan City, Ind.) also earned a selection to the D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region First Team.

Espeset has guided the Spartans to a 39-5-1 record, a regular season HCAC crown, a HCAC tournament title, and the school’s second NCAA baseball regional championship.  Espeset will lead the Spartans into the NCAA Division III World Series this weekend against Wis.-Stevens Point Friday afternoon.

Marchant, a senior shortstop for the Spartans, earned first team honors after hitting .373 with 54 runs, 63 hits, 19 doubles, five home runs, and 56 RBI.  Niemann, a junior third basemen, has hit .339 with 42 runs, 64 hits, 17 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, and 70 RBI.  Marchant and Niemann were named First Team All-HCAC this spring.

Manchester University’s Trevor Kimm (Anderson, Ind.) and Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind.) earned a selection to the D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region Second Team.  Kimm, a sophomore second baseman for MU, is hitting .379 with 37 runs, 69 hits, 11 doubles, seven home runs, and 51 RBI.  Murphy, the HCAC Player of the Year, is hitting .392 with 64 runs, 74 hits, 21 doubles, and 43 RBI, while boasting a 1.10 ERA, 13 saves, and 54 strikeouts in 73.1 innings of work.

Bluffton University’s Kyle Niermann (Napoleon, Ohio), Franklin College’s Jesse Wilson (Seymour, Ind.) and Manchester University’s Kyle Konarski (Elkhart, Ind.) and Justin Scott (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) have been named to the D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region Third Team.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.
