N. MANCHESTER, IN - Manchester University senior baseball player Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind.) was named a Division III first team academic All-American by Capital One and CoSida (Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America) Wednesday, May 30.

He and the Spartans (39-7-1) recently returned from Appleton, Wis., and an appearance in the NCAA Division III College World Series. In the program's second-such trip, the Black and Gold battled UW-Stevens Point and Webster University of Missouri to a pair of games decided by two runs-or-less. Manchester University reached the CWS by winning the Mideast Regional and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championships.

The accounting major from Ossian, Ind., graduated May 19 with honors and continues with Manchester University until December, completing requirements to take the CPA exam. He is the second academic All-American in school history, as former baseball student-athlete Darren Reed was honored in 2002.

Murphy was the lone All-American in the top three teams from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. During his MU career, he was a member of the Accounting and Business Club and served as a student assistant and mentor in the Department of Accounting and Business. He also was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Athletics Committee.

His academic award adds to an already impressive list of postseason honors. Murphy was a first team All-American selection as a utility player for the American Baseball Coaches Association, earned honorable mention All-American honors from, gained all-Mideast Region accolades through the ABCA and and was the HCAC's Player of the Year.
