Baseball Weekly Report - Week 8


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sits at the top of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball standings.

Rose-Hulman pitcher Clayton Mayfield threw just 79 pitches in eight strong innings at Defiance, helping the Fightin' Engineers win the nightcap 10-1 and complete a doubleheader sweep to move to 9-1 in HCAC play. The junior allowed just six hits and one run with three strikeouts in the eight-inning performance.

Franklin's Ryan Bixler recorded his first career three-home run game against Rose-Hulman on Tuesday night, driving in nine runs total in a 19-8 win in game one. The junior homered twice in the seventh inning alone, including the go-ahead grand slam, and added three-run and two-run homers later in the victory. For the week, Bixler scored four times and registered a 1.333 slugging percentage. 

Earlham pitcher Joey Gerbus started on the mound in game one against Mount St. Joseph last week for the Earlham baseball squad. The sophomore went all 9.0 innings striking out 11 batters in the 9-0 shutout win for the Quakers. Gerbus also added a 0.00 earned run average while allowing three hits in the victory.
