John Smolinski, Manchester College, Baseball (Hitter)
Manchester College’s John Smolinski (South Bend, Ind./St. Joseph’s) helped the Spartans to a 4-0 record last weekend and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week.
The junior finished the week 6-for-9 (.667) at the plate with seven runs scored, a double, a home run, and six RBI. He also walked six times and posted an on-base percentage of .800 for the week.
Smolinski increased his consecutive hit streak total to 13 straight plate appearances with a hit before snapping it during the first game with Rose-Hulman Saturday.
During MC’s three game sweep of No. 14 ranked Rose-Hulman, the junior was 5-for-8 with six runs scored, five RBI, a home run, and a double.
Manchester (18-14, 10-5 HCAC) currently occupies the fourth and final spot in the race for a conference tournament berth.
