Rose-Hulman's Eason and Franklin's Schenkel Named Preseason All-Americans

GREENWOOD , IN - The 10th annual 2009 Preseason All-American team was announced this morning, with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior TE Reed Eason (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) being named to the first team. Franklin College junior C Chad Schenkel (Carmel , Ind. /H.S.) earned a spot on the second team offensive unit.

Eason, who was also named a second-team preseason All-American by Lindy's Football Magazine earlier this summer, has recorded 84 pass receptions for 968 yards and 10 touchdowns in his two years as a Fightin' Engineer.

Last season, Eason caught 37 passes for 433 yards and five touchdowns.  He earned first-team all-league honors as a tight end and was the second-team punter after averaging 38.4 yards per kick and landing 15 boots inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

Schenkel earned a spot on the second team after anchoring the Grizzlies' offensive line last season. The junior center was a first-team All-HCAC center last season.

Eason and Schenkel were the only student-athletes from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selected to the preseason team.
