Rose's Record Setting Offensive Outburst Highlights HCAC Football Opening Weekend
TERRE HAUTE, IN - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (1-0, 0-0 HCAC) football team retained the Battle of the Borders broadsword for the ninth consecutive time as the Engineers rolled Earlham 61-24 Saturday afternoon.
Rose set a school record for offensive yards in a single game, amassing 565 yards of total offense. Senior quarterback Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill./H.S.) was solid in his 2009 debut, completing 13 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns. Wide Receivers Reed Eason (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) and Thomas Reives (Indianapolis, Ind./Tech) each surpassed 100 yards receiving and added a touchdown in the win.
Senior running back Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg, Ind./Southridge) contributed to the Engineers balanced attack with 133 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
Rose will look to carry the momentum into their home contest with North Park (IL) Saturday as the Engineers play host to the Vikings at 5:00 PM.
