CINCINNATI, OH - Rose-Hulman (3-3, 2-2 HCAC) rushed for a season-high 252 yards against the HCAC’s second-ranked defense, earning a 13-7 win on the road against Mount St. Joseph (3-3, 2-3 HCAC).
Sophomore running back Kyle Kovach (Munster, Ind./Andrean) rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown, while Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg, Ind./Southridge) added 113 yards to propel the Engineer ground attack.
The Rose defense also turned in a tremendous performance, holding the Mount to just 216 yards and 14 first downs in the contest.
Junior Matt Green (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) recorded a team-high eight tackles, including two tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble as the Engineers defeated the Lions for the second time in nine meetings. On the afternoon, the RHIT defense forced four Mount St. Joseph turnovers.
Junior kicker Nick Schneider (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) split the uprights twice for the Engineers, booting 23-yard and 22-yard field goals late in the second quarter.
Mount St. Joseph received most of its offense on the ground. Sophomore quarterback Brian Pitzer (South Salem, Ohio/McClain) led the rushing attack with 96 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Pitzer scored with just under four minutes remaining in the second quarter, cutting the Lions’ deficit to 10-7.
Rose continued to utilize an effective ball control offense in the second half as the Engineers held the football for 40 minutes in the contest.
Rose-Hulman will return to Terre Haute this weekend to face Bluffton at 1:30 PM. Mount St. Joseph will try and snap a three game losing streak as the Lions travel to Richmond to face Earlham.
