WHITEWATER, WI – Franklin College fell to top-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater 52-21 in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Division III football playoffs today.
The defending national champion Warhawks broke away in the third quarter after scoring their go-ahead touchdown to make it 21-14 with 25 seconds to go in the opening half.
UW-Whitewater, now 11-0, ranked first in both the D3football.com and AFCA Top 25 polls and seeded second in the “North Central Bracket”, hosts Trine in the second round next weekend. The Grizzlies, No. 24 in the D3football.com poll, No. 21 in the AFCA ratings and winners of nine straight contests coming in, finished its 2010 campaign at 9-2.
