DANVILLE, KY - Hanover College (1-0, 0-0 HCAC) prevailed with a gutsy overtime win at Centre, defeating the host Colonels 28-27. Junior quarterback C.J. Croft (Ft. Campbell, Ky./H.S.) stretched across the goal line for a two-point conversion to give the Panthers an exciting one-point road win.
Croft’s three-yard plunge for the game-winner capped a second half rally that earned Hanover’s first win in a season opener since 2005. Centre dominated Hanover early, limiting the Panthers to just two first downs and led 17-0 at halftime.
HC came out firing in the second half, outscoring the Colonels 20-0 to take a 20-17 lead with six minutes to play and eventually pulled out the win in the extra frame.
The Hanover offense totaled 330 yards against the Centre defense, including 238 through the air. Croft finished the evening 29 of 46 for 238 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 67 yards and a score on 25 carries.
Junior wide receiver Daniel Passafiume (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) caught 12 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown to lead all receivers in the contest.
Sophomore linebacker Andy Dalton (Guilford, Ind./East Central) paced the Hanover defense with 17 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in the win.
Hanover will face nationally ranked Thomas More at 1:30 PM Saturday afternoon at L.S. Ayers Field.
