Bluffton Kicks Past Manchester 30-27 in Overtime for Second-Straight Win

N. MANCHESTER, IN - Bluffton University (2-4, 2-2 HCAC) pulled out an exciting 30-27 overtime win at Manchester College (2-3, 1-2 HCAC) Saturday afternoon on the Spartans' Homecoming. The Beavers earned their second-straight win and handed the Spartans their second consecutive defeat.

Sophomore kicker Austin Sweeney (Adrian, Mich./Whitmer) booted a 37-yard field goal in overtime to deliver the win for BU. 

The two squads battled back and forth the entire game, knotting up at 20-20 at the half and 27-27 at the end of regulation.

The offenses proved even in the game as the Spartans had the slight advantage (367-354) in total yards. Manchester had the advantage on the ground, rushing for 252 yards, while the Beavers picked up 160.Bluffton led the air attack, connecting for 194 yards, while the Spartans had just 115 in the air.

Both teams turned the ball over just once on the afternoon.  

The Beavers' offense was led by Tyler Wright (Troy, Ohio/H.S.) who ran the ball for 101 yards and a touchdown on just seven carries. The sophomore also threw the ball for 101 yards and two touchdowns, going 7-for-10 with one interception.

Manchester's offense was led by freshman running back Corey Nelson (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll).  The freshman rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.  Senior quarterback Justin Minnich (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) added 60 rushing yards and 115 yards and a touchdown through the air in the loss.  

Bluffton returns home looking for its third straight win against Anderson Saturday afternoon, while Manchester will try and snap a two-game skid against Franklin.
