INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Franklin College football team has a No. 4 seed and a home game in the 2011 NCAA Division III playoffs.The NCAA Committee announced its bracket pairings for the 32-team tournament this evening.
The Grizzlies (9-1 overall), making their fourth appearance in five years in the NCAA playoffs since becoming affiliated with Division III in 1992, will host Thomas More College (9-1) at Stewart "Red" Faught Stadium at noon on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Thomas More, which captured the President's Athletic Conference title and an automatic bid, is the No. 5 seed in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Bracket. The Saints are making their sixth appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Other first-round games in the bracket include No. 1 seed Wisconsin-Whitewater (10-0) hosting No. 8 Albion (6-4); No. 2 Salisbury (9-1) hosting No. 7 Western New England (10-1); and No. 3 Kean (9-1) hosting No. 6 Christopher Newport (8-2).
Franklin is ranked 16th in the nation in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 poll and rated 18th in the D3football.com Top 25 poll. Thomas More is 19th in the AFCA ranking and 20th in the D3football.com poll.
The NCAA Committee selected teams based on conference results and competition within an institution's respective evaluation region.
