FRANKLIN, IN – Four Franklin College football players have earned preseason All-American accolades by D3football.com, released today by the organization specializing in NCAA Division III gridiron coverage. Senior wide receiver Kyle Linville (Speedway, Ind./H.S.) and senior punter Michael Parks (Shelbyville, Ind./H.S.) garnered first-team honors, while senior defensive back Zack Corpe (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) and senior quarterback Jonny West (Speedway, Ind./H.S.) were second-team choices.
This gave the Grizzlies the most preseason All-Americans than any other college team.
Linville holds five school records and enters the 2013 season leading all active NCAA football players with 39 career touchdown receptions. He broke his own single-season school marks with 85 catches, 1,426 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns last fall. The 6-foot-1 receiver also has been named a preseason All-American by Lindy’s Sports and The Sporting News.
Parks leads all NCAA Division III punters with a 41.01-yard career average. He earned All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) honors in 2012 after averaging 41.7 yards per punt.
Corpe earned HCAC Defensive Most Valuable Player honors last season after recording seven interceptions. He has tallied 16 career interceptions and has helped anchor a defense that posted three straight conference shutouts in 2012.
Parks and Corpe were also preseason All-Americans by Lindy’s Sports.
West enters the 2013 season leading all returning Division III quarterbacks with 19 victories and 65 career touchdowns. The two-year starter has helped lead the Grizzlies to two playoff victories. West ranks second in school history with 6,732 passing yards and has completed 63 percent of his passes. He was the HCAC 2011 Offensive Most Valuable Player after throwing for 3,581 yards, and last season completed 20-of-21 passes in a victory against Anderson University.
Franklin returns 20 starters from last season’s 9-3 team that advanced to the second round of the Division III playoffs for the second straight season. The Grizzlies are ranked 19th in the D3football.com preseason poll.
The team opens the 2013 season against defending national champion and preseason No. 1 ranked University of Mount Union on September 7 at 1:30 p.m. from Alliance, Ohio. Franklin’s home opener will be against Butler University on September 14 at 6 p.m. in the first night game at Faught Stadium.
