Defiance DB Jorry Matherson Earns HCAC Play of the Week Honor

GREENWOOD, IN - Defiance College defensive back Jorry Matherson (Columbia, Md./Atholton) was voted as the HCAC Play of the Week for week 1.  The sophomore earned the title after voting took place on the HCAC social media outlets of Facebook and Twitter.

Matherson's winning play was a spectacular first quarter interception on a bubble screen in the Yellow Jackets narrow 32-29 loss at Albion on Saturday.  Matherson finished the afternoon with four tackles, two tackles for loss, and an interception.

The final voting tally saw Matherson garnering 72% of the vote, beating out Franklin senior wide receiver Kyle Linville (Speedway, Ind./H.S.) for the honor (27%).

Linville's impressive one-handed reception late in the Grizzlies' 30-27 loss to No. 1 ranked Mount Union was named the D3football.com National Play of the Week yesterday afternoon.

The poll was distributed on the HCAC Twitter (@HCACDIII) and Facebook pages Monday, with voting ending at 10AM today. 

The contest generated over 2,400 page views and 1,200 votes in a 36-hour period.
