INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Hanover and Franklin remain undefeated at the top of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference football standings.
The Franklin College Grizzlies claimed a 64-20 win at home against Earlham on Saturday. In one half of action, the Grizzlies quarterback Braden Smith went 12-for-14 for 384 yards and three touchdowns. All three of the junior's scoring passes went for 40 yards or more in the victory. Franklin kicker Jake Campbell recorded 560 yards and four touchbacks on 10 kickoffs during the home contest for the Grizzlies.
Hanover College picked up a 48-14 victory on the road at Manchester on Saturday. The Panthers tallied 577 total offensive yards compared to the Spartans 163. Hanover's offensive attack was led by sophomore Shawn Coane. The running back finished with 32 carries for 254 yards and one rushing score. The sophomore also added three receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown over 60 yards. In the victory, Coane finished with a career-high 329 all-purpose yards and two scores. On defense, Dakota Manion led the Panthers with seven total tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one interception in the win.
The Mount St. Joseph Lions traveled to Defiance and claimed a 20-0 win on the road over the weekend. The Lions stifling defense was led by senior Cory Hardin. The defensive lineman contributed 10 total tackles, four solo, two sackes, and 3.5 tackles for loss in the victory for the Mount.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology claimed a 44-6 victory on Saturday at home against Anderson. Fightin' Engineer linebacker Jack Heyl recorded three sacks to lead a Rose-Hulman defensive effort that notched six sacks in the win. Rose-Hulman's wide receiver Noah Thomas led the offensive effort with a single-game school record of 226 yards on nine receptions. The sophomores three touchdown catches came from 26, 78 and 64 yards as Rose-Hulman registered its third HCAC victory of the season.
