Bluffton University’s Austin Sweeney (Adrian, Mich./Whitmer) finished the day with eight points as the Beavers handled rival Defiance 27-24 in two overtimes Saturday and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on special teams for the second time.
The junior kicker hit field goals from 40 and 22 yards and was a perfect 2-for-2 on extra points.
The 40-yard field goal was a season high and the 22-yard make proved to be the game-winner in the second overtime frame.
Bluffton (6-4, 5-3 HCAC) finished the season with a winning record for the first time since 2000.
