Men's Basketball Report (Week 7) - Defiance Wins Back-to-Back Tournament Titles
GREENWOOD, IN - Defiance College (11-2, 2-2 HCAC) went 4-0 and claimed two tournament titles over the holiday vacation. The Jackets earned the Purple and Gold Tournament title and the Domino's New Year's Classic championship in Salem, Virginia during the break.
DC defeated Ohio State-Lima 114-51 and DePauw 89-75 to capture their own tournament December 29-30. Anthony Brown (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook So.) led the scoring against OSL with 19 points, while Nick Sales (Barberton, Ohio/H.S.) led all scorers with 23 points vs. DePauw.
The purple and gold narrowly defeated Ferrum 87-85 in the opening round of the Domino's New Year's Classic and earned the title with a 64-56 win over Ohio Wesleyan. Mike Floyd (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) earned the tournament MVP award at the event. Floyd scored 17 points and added nine assists against Ferrum and added 12 points and five assists in the title game.
Defiance will take a five game win streak into confernece play this week as the Jackets travel to Transylvania Wednesday night.
