Anderson Survives Bubble and Joins Defiance in 61-Team Men's Field

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Defiance College, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champions, will play Wisconsin-Whitewater at Wooster on Friday, March 5 in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Jackets won the HCAC's automatic bid with a 70-65 win over Anderson in the championship game. The Ravens, despite the loss to DC, earned an at-large berth into the 61-team field and will face St. Thomas (Minn.) at Carthage Friday.
Defiance, 23-5, will travel to Wooster, Ohio to tangle with the Warhawks of Wisconsin-Whitewater (22-5). The Warhawks fell to UW-Stevens Point, 63-57 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game. Whitewater enters the clash with Defiance winners of five of their past six games and ranked No. 8 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, while the Jackets enter NCAA postseason play on an eight game winning streak.
The Jackets are making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in school history.
The winner of the Defiance vs. Wis.-Whitewater game will play the winner of the Wooster (23-5) vs. Grove City (19-8) game Saturday, March 6 at the College of Wooster.
For the first time in school history, Anderson has been selected to play in the 61-team NCAA Division III Tournament. The No. 24 ranked Ravens (22-5) will face No. 6 St. Thomas (Minn.) (23-4) at 6:00 PM (CST) Friday in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Tommies fell to Carleton 73-67 in the semifinals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. St. Thomas had won 12 straight games prior to the loss.
The winner of the Anderson vs. St. Thomas matchup will face the winner of host Carthage (22-5) vs. Aurora (18-10) game Saturday, March 6 at 7:00 PM (CST) from Carthage College.
