Men's Basketball Report (Week 13) - HCAC Race Tightens Up Heading into Final Week
GREENWOOD, IN - The 2010-11 HCAC men's basketball season has been highly contested throughout the season. Hanover, Manchester, and Anderson remain alive for the conference title and right to host the upcoming HCAC men's basketball tournament. Transylvania and Rose-Hulman have also clinched a bid into the six-team field, leaving one open spot.
Hanover moved a few steps closer to claiming their first HCAC men's basketball title since 2004-05 with wins over Franklin and Earlham during the week. The Panthers have won five straight since dropping three in a row back in January.
HC closes the regular season with contests against Rose-Hulman and Anderson. The Panthers can clinch the conference's top seed and right to host both the men's and women's tournaments with wins over the Engineers and Ravens this week.
The Hanover women's basketball team clinched the outright league title and right to host the women's tournament last week.
Manchester will need home wins over Anderson and Transylvania and a Hanover loss to claim the top seed. The Spartans have won seven straight down the stretch to make a run at the conference crown. MC posted double figure wins over Franklin and Bluffton during last week's action.
Anderson controls its own destiny the final week of the regular season. The Ravens can earn a share of the league title and the top seed with a road win against Manchester Wednesday and a win at home over Hanover Saturday. AU remained in the hunt after going 2-1 in three league road games last week, including a 74-65 win at Transylvania.
Bluffton can clinch the final spot in the six team field with a win over Defiance and a Franklin loss to Mount St. Joseph Wednesday night.
