Men's Basketball Report (Week 12) - Transy Moves Up Standings Into 4th Place
GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania University (15-6, 9-5 HCAC) moved into fourth place in the conference standings after knocking off Franklin and Defiance last week. The Pioneers have won five of their last six games heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
Transy got off to a great start on Thursday night, defeating host Franklin 71-57 at the Spurlock Center. Sophomore forward Ethan Spurlin (Stanford, Ky./Lincoln Co.) led the scoring effort with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. The Pioneers shot 53.8% as a team in the win.
Defiance traveled to Lexington Saturday as Transy handed the Jackets their sixth straight defeat, 72-67. The game was tight throughout as both squads struggled from the field. TU managed to pull out the victory despite shooting 38.9% on the afternoon. Spurlin was one point shy of a career-high, finishing the contest with 20 points and four rebounds.
Transylvania remains in Lexington at the Beck Center Wednesday and Saturday as Mount St. Joseph and Anderson come to town.
The Pioneers defeated Mount St. Joseph 77-64 in January and fell to Anderson 69-58 on January 8.
